Work experience for interns

Participating in an internship or co-op allows students the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned in the classroom and challenges them to learn, grow and do. University students often participate in an internship or co-op as a stand-alone alternative to academic study abroad, or as a complement before or after completion of an academic semester.

The J-1 Visa internship duration in the U.S. can vary from 4 weeks to 12 months, and can begin at any time during the year. Many students take advantage of seasonal breaks, while others participate for a semester or year.

If a student wishes to gain credit for an internship at his or her home institution, we work closely with faculty and administrators to provide detailed information pertaining to the student’s achievements and scope of the internship experience.

Expedited processing

Passos para se candidatar

Total Processing time from complete application received to shipment of Form DS-219 is 2 weeks.

Actual processing time may very depending on timely submission of all required documents and receipts of payment. If a site visit is required, please allow for an additional 2-3 days processing time.

Step 1

Student creates a MyIntrax account and uploads all required application documents.

Step 2

Intrax reviews and accepts the application. Non-Canadian citizens will be scheduled for a Zoom call to prepare for the visa interview.

Step 3

For new host companies, Intrax schedules a host organization validation call or site visit.

Step 4

Invoice is sent via email to the designated payer.

Step 5

Intrax issues Form DS-7002 via DocuSign to collect signatures from the intern/trainee and supervisor. Sent after any required validation call or site visit is complete.

Step 6

Once the DS-7002 is signed, Intrax releases the DS-2019. The intern can access it directly in their MyIntrax account.

Step 7

Non-Canadian citizens will receive instructions for scheduling their J-1 visa appointment at a U.S. Consular Post in Canada.
